Our Best Bites.

This summer I found myself in a HUGE recipe/cooking slump. My cooking always takes a bit of a dive through the warmer months (I'd rather be by the pool than in a hot kitchen) but this summer was worse. Way worse. It got so bad that I didn't even want to eat the same old recipes in my repertoire. Luckily, a friend told me about the   Our Best Bitescook book and I was immediately cured.

I've visited Sara and Kate's popular blog many times in the past and knew their book wouldn't disappoint, so I had no problem picking it up at Costco for a song. All of the recipes are simple, easy to follow and call for ingredients that I'm familiar with. Plus, they're very child friendly.   The bookitself is spiral bound (love that!) and even has a cute little conversion chart in the front which is very helpful.

I've been cooking out of it for a few weeks now and still haven't been disappointed with a single recipe. We love the buttermilk caramel syrup on pancakes, ice cream, spoons. . . it's so good!

And the sugar cookie recipe is my all time fave.

And don't even get me started on the steak fries. Oliver would be a happy boy if I prepared them everyday. They're delish.

Do you have   Our Best Bites and if so, what's your favorite recipe?

  1. I love this cookbook and use it all the time. My favorite recipe would have to be their dinner rolls. The are melt in your mouth yummy.

  2. i was actually really disappointed in this cookbook. I guess I was just really unlucky, but the first 3 recipes I tried were either missing ingredients in the ingredient list that were later called for in the instructions, or called for ingredients in the ingredient list and then never told me when to add them in the instructions, or skipped important steps (like blind baking the crust on some cheesecake bar thing) that completely ruined the recipe. I ended up giving the book away.

  3. That's really strange, EM. I've not had a single problem. I wonder if perhaps you purchased an earlier edition?

  4. We love so many of their recipes, but are particularly fond of the garlic bread sticks and taquitos!

  5. The taquitos are good. Also the black bean soup was good (though a little strong so I'll back off on the peppers a little next time). My family also raved about the cilantro lime salad dressing.

But my current favorite cookbook is America's Test Kitchen's Family Cookbook which you can also get at Costco. A total winner.

  7. I don't have the cookbook, but I do like their blog- their sugar cookies are the only recipe I use!

  8. I think my list of what I don't like in that cookbook would be shorter. :) Love the baked creamy chicken taquitos. And the bread sticks. Oh, but the the rosemary foccacia bread is to die for, especially with fresh rosemary from my garden. LOVE.
