A Boy + A Sandwich.

For as long as I can remember Mr. Owen has refused to eat a sandwich. When I did happen to make him one, he would consume the insides [usually ham and cheese] and leave the bread. On Valentine's Day I whipped up a bunch of little heart sandwich's for the children. Easton and Abby got the sweet surprises in their lunchboxes and Owen and I enjoyed ours together. Guess what? He actually ate it. Bread and all. Everyday since then his lunch request is "a heart sandwich, please. Make sure it's cut into a heart"
And that's one demand I'm more than happy to accommodate.

  2. How funny. I did this for my neice on Valentine's day also and from then on she has wanted "heart sandwiches" in her lunch too. If I make her lunch, I am more than happy to fulfill her request :)

  4. Let's get him and Sydney together, cause all she eats is the bread and she pulls out all the meat!

  5. Colby has never liked sandwiches either. I just got him to start eating turkey sandwiches. I like the idea of using cookie cutters to make them into shapes. I will have to do that soon!

  8. This reminds me of this vintage better homes and garden kids cook book that I have. They have a section on sandwiches. And the only thing that they do to make the sandwich 'special' is to cut it into a shape. But my girls take it very seriously! They open the cookbook and find the 'recipe' that they want. Basically, a PB&J cut into a star.

I'll have to show it to you :)

I must compliment you on your heart sandwich. I can never get my shapes to look so good! What's the trick?

  9. I am new to your cute blog--and this picture and post made me laugh! I have those exact same dishes--the mini yellow anthropologie bowl and the mikasa stoneware plate. And--my little 3 year old will NOT eat a sandwich either. I am going to try the heart shaped idea! So thanks!! And good luck with your new baby!

  11. My son said he would start eating sandwiches when he was six, that was 8 months ago. Have you seen the cutters that are specifically for sandwiches and cuts the crust off while cutting it into two perfect dinosaurs?

  12. My oldest ate themed shaped sandwiches everyday in her lunch through second grade. :) It's such a simple way to say I love you. Or You are special to me.
