Mother's Cookies.

This is a sad, sad day people. My dear friend Jenny posted about the news of Mother's Cookies demise and my little heart just can't take it. Growing up with a working mother, it was these sweet pink and white frosted beauties that ended every sack lunch for me. Not the homemade variety. So many memories...

Goodbye little frosted, sprinkled, animal shapes. Goodbye. I'm off to see if I can dig up one last bag from the store shelves. Wish me luck.

  1. hey, I went to go buy "one last bag" myself and found that Keebler makes them, too. So they are not completely extinct.

I have fond memories of the keebler version mentioned above, so maybe those could be of some consolation to you if your deplete your supply of the originals. your picture looks so inviting!

  3. John and I shared a bag of those on our wedding night! They are his favorite cookie...and we always bought the Mothers brand. What a loss.

  6. When I see these cookies, I think of my dad. He had the biggest sweet tooth around, and these were on the top of his sweets list.

  9. That's crazy! Why are they done? These are Bill's absolute favorite cookie on the planet, he will be heartbroken. Although it might be good, since right now he's not eating sweets.

  12. I can't believe their company had to file for bankruptcy! That's crazy since their cookies and products are so popluar. I'm shedding some tears right now.

  13. I would have to say, hooooraaayyyyy! These cookies would mysteriously show up on my counter, I would be tempted, eat one and then realize why I never buy them. After 90 plus years had anyone from mothers actually ever tried their own cookies? Can you honestly say, honestly, that they are great cookies? Just ponder that for a moment. This is a glorious day! (I do however feel for those who lost their jobs)

  16. Jenny: No. It's a very bad day. I checked all three surrounding grocery stores and there are no animal cookies to be seen. I guess all I have left are my memories. And maybe ebay...

  17. Save your money! Think about how much time, money and gas you have all wasted in sadly attempting to save an already dead company. Where were you a year ago, five years ago, ten years ago when they actually needed you. Now that they are gone you're all running mad trying to find them. Think of your poor husbands at work simply trying to make an honest living. . . electricity, heat, warm water, good food, clothes for the little ones . . .only to come home to counters full of Mothers cookies. I hope you all have a change of heart.

  18. Hate to be a downer, but I am not a big fan of these little cookies. They taste terrible and have and the after taste is worse. But I feel for the rest of you who are hurting right now over the loss of these gross little cookies.

  19. Well I am a little behind and haven't checked your blog in a while. I just saw your cute little baby bump...and decided we must talk. (If you are having a girl!) I know you love the vowel/A name for your girls and you are not allowed to steal my next child's name! Give me a call so we can work this out!
    Sincerely,
    Katie Rios

    PS I am not prego
PSS do you like how I was so business like about this comment. Thats right! Lets get down to business about this baby naming thing. I've got an A name in mind!:)

  22. My kids loved these cookies-but I am okay with them being a thing of the past-because at least you have an alternative(thanx Keeblers). I love the Taffy cookies this company makes-and I haven't seen anything close to a substitute...my dad is going to go throught withdrawals as these are his favorite..but who knows maybe they will release the recipe to another company to make..we can only hope. If I can find some, I know what I will be getting him for christmas!!!
