Simple Things

When it comes to decor, I am always changing things around. I test out different "homes" for accessories to mix things up. This simple practice helps me keep a fresh outlook not only on the accessories themselves, but also on my home. I am easily bored when it comes to my surroundings and am always looking for a way to spice them up. Something I have done for years is mix in fresh flowers. This may sound like a simple thing, but you would be amazed the difference an inexpensive bunch of flowers can make. I purchased a small bunch of yellow daises from Wal-Mart for $4.00 and divided them into three small arrangements to be placed throughout the house. They're sunny and happy and add life to the little spaces they occupy.

Today's tip/challenge:
Treat yourself to some fresh flowers and test out my philosophy in YOUR home.

  1. Flowers do make a difference. That's one thing I miss about spring and summer, being able to go cut some flowers from my yard.

  5. That little space makes me want to curl up with a soft blanket and peruse through your magazines. The flowers do add just the right touch. My mom gave me 2 HUGE arrangements of fresh flowers on my birthday, and it was fun to seperate them into several SMALLER arrangements throughout the house. I have to admit, I would never think to do it in, the fall, but maybe next time I'm at Wal Mart...

  6. Cute idea! How do you keep the little one from spilling the water, drinking it, or dumping it out? I love daisies! Thanks for the tip!

  7. I love yellow flowers in a house. Little bits of sunshine.

I am with you on the eating noises, we have discussed this before.

I am constantly moving things in my house. Change energizes the space.

  8. I've never really thought to get fresh flowers for my home. I think I'm going to have to do it though. It's a good idea to break them up and make a few arrangements out of them.

Just curious, what kind of music do you listen to at dinner?

  9. What a magazine-worthy vignette of your table with the daisies! You can make anything sparkle!

  10. Lindsay, we listen to the cd's Marilyn makes. She creates the best playlists. They range from artists like Michael (of course) to The Shins. Love them all.

  11. OK...I know that this is an old post...but I have a comment...now. I was in Fred Meyer on January 8 and saw a beautiful bunch of flowers in lovely shades of purple. I remembered this post that you had made and decided to BUY them. 10 days later...they are still GORGEOUS!!! I didn't think that they would have lasted 3 days, much less 10 (and they are still alive and pretty) Thanks for this tip. I will ALWAYS keep some fresh flowers around now. Well worth a few buckaroos :)
