Save Your Soul

Mmmm... I can feel a bit of nip in the air today and I couldn't be happier. Fall is my favorite time of year. The colors, the smells, nesting back into our homes, everything about it makes me feel all warm and cozy. I have to admit that it isn't quite fall to me unless I have watched the one movie that makes fall come alive. Every year since it's been out, I watch "You've Got Mail" to ring in my favorite season. There is something about the New York scenery in fall splendor that makes me happy. Kathleen's Brownstone, the carnival scene with Joe and his brother Matt, and Aunt Annabelle, the clothes, EVERYTHING! I also love Steve Zahn and he plays the perfect George. One of my many favorite lines from the movie is when George says "I'm going to the nut shop where it's fun!" Cracks me up every time! Oh yea, and the opening scene after Joe and Kathleen's morning log-ons that shows them passing each other on the NY streets with one of my favorite songs ever, Dreams, by the Cranberries playing. Someday when I go to NY in the fall, this is the song that will be playing in my head. Perfect.

How do you celebrate fall?

  1. No wonder you're my best friend. I was just thinking yesterday that it is time to watch "You've Got Mail". I love the part where she talks about buying school supplies and having bouquets of pencils. But my favorite scene is the twirling scene, oh and the part where she chants "fight fight fight" with her fists up.

This movie really does scream "FALL". That is why it is my favorite movie. It's so cozy.

  2. I have to watch this NOW! I love everything about Fall. The crisp mornings, the colors, and most of all the smell. Yes, I believe that there is a smell to Fall. And it makes me smile!

  3. So why don't we have a "You've Got Mail" viewing party with some yummy pumpkin bread and hot cider? Sounds perfect to me.

  5. Fall means, no more late nights working in the garage for Jack, Football Games, Cool evenings, the New Season of TV Shows, and birthdays! We love fall too!

  6. I'm totally left out of this. I live in south Louisiana and we have hot and not-as-hot then cold.

No Autumn, Fall, whatever... I cannot even believe y'all are wearing cords and sweaters!!!

  7. I really went downstairs and viewed this right after reading this post! Spencer actually watched it with me, and he liked it too! Thanks for reminding me how much I love this movie.

Of course this doesn't mean that I still wouldn't watch it with the girls if it were a girls' night in movie!

  8. Danyelle, it's funny because I was actually thinking about this movie the other day, and I know I've said before that I'm not a huge fan, but I was thinking it's been a while and I'd like to watch it. I say we do have a party! I love this song. And Marilyn, I had to laugh because as much as I love you, our tastes are so different, and your two favorite parts are why I don't watch that movie! (I think it's a Meg Ryan thing.)

  9. I'm always up for a party...
Who's hosting? My basement won't be done until next week sometime and I don't know if I can wait that long.

  10. I celebrate fall by decorating my home, cooking warm comfort foods, going to football games and drinking hot cocoa wrapped up in a blanket, putting on sweats at 7:00 at night, sitting in front of the fireplace with a good book, and attending all of the craft fairs. When I think of fall I think of the Homcoming football game, letterman jackets, and pom poms. The sound of the marching band drifting over to the parking lot. I could go on and on...You all are convincing me I like fall a lot more than I thought.

I open my windows. isn't it amazing to have wind go through your house that makes your house cooler instead of stifling hot? i love having my windows open. even when the occasional fly family moves in. i also have been craving pumpkin bread. have the most amazing recipe. if anyone is interested.

  13. hmmm, movie night sounds wonderful. I haven't seen this movie in a while. I love it!

And, I totally agree with Noelle. I have had my windows open all week, and it is so wonderful. Except it lets the yummy smell of cranberry bread escape.

    HOORAY FOR FALL!

  14. Windows open and the fireplace going at the same time - can't beat warmth AND fresh air, lit candles, smell of baked goods wafting through the hosue, hunting (time alone when I can watch whatever I want - no murder and mayhem), smell of wet leaves, burning leaves and walking through crunchy leaves. I redecorate something while Leon is gone hunting. It is tradition and he expects something to be different when he comes home and he would be disspointed if I didn't.

  15. I'm all for a movie night with yummy treats to get into the fall spirit. I love this time of year so much. It's cool, but the weather is gorgeous! Tami's description said it so well!

  16. How true is this. Heather was reading this posting over my shoulder and said that you and I must be the same person. I love the fall and you've got mail. I really love newly sharpened pencils.
